This week I am doing some writing for the local marine reserve about an exciting new project. For now I will be mysterious to avoid spoilers, but it’s nice to be creating some feel-good content, with oceanic wordplay, about a very important cause. Someone I admire: Roger Deakin
Hey! I read Waterlog last year while I was in England. My mum’s house in Suffolk is down the road from his “house with moat”, which I think is now an Airbnb. I agree with you - the book is beautifully written but a bit long-winded at times. Roger seemed like a very likeable chap though and it’s so uplifting to hear about all these happy aquanauts :) It sounds like you’ve made up your mind re. Poll and are leaning towards the thesis 😉
When you mention Roger Deakin and ‘following water’ it made me think of my Te Reo teacher explaining that the pepeha ‘follows water’…. From maunga to river to sea..
Hey Shona! As a kiwi I actually have a favour to ask of you if you don’t mind? What’s your email address? If you don’t want to share here, are you able to flick me a one-liner please to carolineriches.writer@gmail.com. Thank you!

Yes, yes, yes to booties. Although I continue to fight with mine...
